Team WRT leads Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered By AWS Teams

With three victories in the first two rounds of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered By AWS Sprint, a P4 at Paul Ricard and P3 at Spa 24 Hours (Endurance championship) Team WRT is leading the Teams challenge with 86 points ahead of Winward Racing (51,5 pts) and ComToYou Racing (51 pts). Quite a confortable gap for the Belgian squad as a maximum of 35 points (16,5 per race win and 1 per pole) will be allocated at the Hockenheim Fanatec GT Sprint Cup.

Dries Vanthoor and Charles Weerts won two of the three races clinched by Team WRT with #32 BMW M4 GT3 and will be the only lineup present this weekend at Hockenheim (#46 with Rossi and Martin does not participate). With a P2 at Misano and a P3 at Spa24, they lead the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered By AWS Drivers with 64 points, 17,5 points ahead of Aston Martin factory driver Mattia Drudi (victorious at Spa 24 Hours with Thiim and Sorensen) and 19 points ahead of Mercedes-AMG works drivers Maro Engel and Lucas Auer.

Mattia Drudi’ll not be associated with the β€œDane Train” duo (Thiim and Sorensen for Endurance races) at Hockenheim as Nicolas Baert is his co-driver for Sprint races in the #007 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo2. Maro Engel and Lucas Auer will share the #48 Winward Racing mercedes-AMG GT3 which enabled them to clinch pole and win in the Brands Hatch second sprint race.

With 3 wins and 2 pole out of 4 races so far in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Powered By AWS Sprint Cup Teams, BMW M Team WRT is leading with 56 points. Winward Racing is second (48,5 pts) and Emil Frey racing third (46,5 pts). Both Emile Frey Ferrari 296 GT3 #14 and #69 have clinched a podium seat for 3 of the four Sprint races so far (2 P2 and 1 P3) demonstrating consistency but lacking velocity. Having two cars to score points at Hockenheim is definitively an advantage for the Swiss team comparing to Team WRT and Winward Racing with one PRO car each.
